Aphrodite Hills Charity Event a Great Success |
|
Thomas Cook’s first ever Celeb-Am golf challenge took
place at Aphrodite Hills last weekend, September 30, 2006. The event, attended by 18 celebrities from the worlds of
entertainment and sport, raised more than GBP 17.000 for Thomas Cook’s chosen charity, the Variety Club Children’s
Charity.
More than 100 amateur golfers took part in the event. Holidaymakers, locals and expatriates paid to play with the
celebrities, who included Russ Abbott, Sir Henry Cooper, Jasper Carrott and Ed Stewart. Other well-known faces
included Olympic gold medalist Alan Wells, magician David Redfern and darts champion Rod Harrington. The youngest
amateur player was just 16 years old.
The tournament winner was Robert Carson from Scotland, who achieved a score of four over par playing with Rod
Harrington.
Pete Constanti, Director of Overseas Operations and Customer Delivery at Thomas Cook, said: “Thomas Cook has made a
commitment to raise CYP2 million over two years to fund a new Critical Care Unit for children at King's College
Hospital. The charity golf day has been a huge success and will make a significant contribution towards our target.
We’d like to thank all the sponsors that made the event possible."
As well as the golf tournament, the event included an evening reception on board a brand new 10 million Euro motor
cruiser, plus a charity auction of sports memorabilia as part of a gala dinner after the tournament.
